Fine and Rare
Summary
I’ve been here a few times already, so this is now a proper post for it. This is a Jazzy restaurant that you can dine-in without paying a cover which is nice. The jazz itself is pretty fun, although predictable if you don’t listen to a special guest.
This is a blackberry gimlet which has reyka vodka, fresh blackberries, and fresh lime. It was pretty good, and it wasn’t too sweet.
The 16 oz bone-in Angus New York Strip has frizzled leeks, Maldon sea salt, and beef au jus. The steak was cooked at a perfect medium rare. It wasn’t the best cut I’ve had, but it wasn’t bad either. The things on top reminded me of fried onions. The sauce around the steak was salty, but it was a good complementary sauce to the steak. I think the meat near the bones though was a little chewy.
The organic Amish chicken is a half chicken with mashed Yukon gold potato, meyer lemon, thyme garlic, and pan juices. Surprisingly, this was pretty tasty, and it remidned me a lot of Marc Forgione’s chicken under the brick in a way. The dark meats of the chicken were juicy, but the white meats might have been slightly on the dry side. Still, the seasoning was quite good.
I’ve had the desserts here, and they are pretty good as well.
Service was prompt, and the ambiance feels like a fun jazz club without the pretentiousness.
Final Verdict
I’ve never really had drinks only here, and I have always dined here. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for an easy to get into Jazz club with dinner in mind.
Yelp Jabs
Final verdict: go for the ambience and live music, don’t go for the food.
If you go to a jazz club for the food, then you don’t have your priorities set straight.
I would not recommend getting the oysters here. I admit I have very high standards, so I could tell they weren’t super fresh.
If this Yelp elitist had high standards, they wouldn’t have even thought about ordering oysters here.
