Kaoru
Summary
This place is basically chirashi haven.
It’s miso soup.
The uni don came with hamachi and spicy tuna and shiso leaf. I wasn’t too much of a fan of the spicy tuna compared to some other places, but it was still pretty good. The spicy tuna had a very particular flavor that was masked of course when you use soy sauce with wasabi. Otherwise, the fish tasted pretty fresh overall. The butter of the sea was delicious.
The tuna tar tar don came with marinated tuna, tuna chunk, and totoro and shiso leaf. The tuna all tasted pretty fresh. I think for the uni don, we should’ve gotten regular tuna or even salmon over the spicy tuna.
Service was SUPER fast, so it’s an excellent place for lunch. I thought price was pretty decent.
On Saturdays, they have live music without cover, so that might be a fun evening for a date night.
Final Verdict
I really like this place for its simplicity for chirashi. It’s been on my list for a while, but I am glad to finally have tried it and would come back again.
Yelp Jabs
I was craving uni and their uni bowl looks amazing in pictures. I decided to take a leap of faith and went out of my way for it. I also added the salmon row ikura on top. My lunch total was $45 which includes one uni bowl and the complementary miso soup.
This elitist splurged for the wrong reasons here and of course paid the consequences.
Personally, the rice is too sour for me.
My tastebuds must be gone, but I felt it was actually not sour at all.
The tuna bowl, the only plus point was the marinated tuna. Everything was simply underwhelming. Save your money and visit a Pokeworks or something.
You know something is odd with expectations when they compare this to poke.
