Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken
Summary
The Blue Ribbon chain is known for their seafood and sushi. So it was interesting to see them coming out with the fried chicken venture. This has been around for a while, and for the last few years, friends have raved about it.
We got the 4 piece mixed with fries basket. The chicken itself is pretty tender and juicy. The skin is lightly crisped and doesn’t have the batter thickness that something like KFC or Popeyes has. What I did not particularly like was how much seasoning was on the skin. It was salty. The fries themselves were OK. They remind me of Checkers/Rallys batter consistency. This location has all you can drink/fill Boylan soda dispensary. They also have sauces to go along with your fries and chicken.
What makes this place good though is if you were hungover or drunk after a party.
Final Verdict
I think standalone, Popeyes is still much better.
Yelp Jabs
Everything was very mediocre. The fries are different. They used to be thin and crispy shoestring like and now they are just regular fries
I don’t remember the fries ever being crispy shoestring, and I’ve been here a few times already.
Googled best fried chicken in NYC a few weeks ago and Blue Ribbon was at the top of the list
There are probably better fried chicken (sandwiches) places in NYC. One underrated (or overrated depending how you look at it) is Fuku. The East Village location has closed, but it’s still on my list as being decently priced chicken sandwiches.
